GPS rip and hello new one

My hand held GPS (Global Positioning System) that I have had since 1999 finally bit the dust when I was in Prague. It's really served me well over the years. It's a tiny us$100 device that I have found very useful when I don't have a map of a town, and just want to get back to the hotel. Or even better; I just go onto Goggle maps, get the coordinates of something, put them in the GPS and it takes you right to it.

So I splurged and bought a new one in Prague. It has full topographical maps, but only for the Czech Republic. But it has a cool feature... I can easily connect it to a computer and upload tracks of where I was that day. So I've been recording my trip step by step since then. I can plot my tracks on Goggle maps. For example... my bike ride in Krakow: Bike Ride in Krakow, Poland. Or more recently, the bus route from Odessa to Chisinev is here.

Now the other thing I will be able to do is geo-tag my images. Since my camera time is set to be exactly in-time with my gps, I should be able to do this automatically. It's really a pain to do it manually.

[Technical Paragraph Ahead]
Now there are programs that do it offline, (i.e. change the exif info of the pictures), but I don't have that luxury while traveling. I need someone to do it online. It's really simple... just upload your gpx file (one per day) from your gps (contains coordinates/date-time pairs), and it then sets the coordinate of the image (using the flickr api) for each photo on that day. Simple and really cool. Why hasn't someone done it yet?

Anyway... tomorrow I'm off to do a tour of the wine country here in Moldova, and then I'm off to Iasi, Romania; right across the border. Hopefully, I won't be too drunk.
